A NEW CENTRALITY BETWEEN THE VILLA REALE AND THE HISTORIC CENTER OF MONZA. 

A wide-ranging operation such as the restoration of the monumental complex of Villa Reale, the garden and its enhancement as a system of centrality on a large scale, modifies the relations and hierarchies of the territorial scenarios. The character of the Villa, combined with the extraordinary articulation of open spaces, is one of the distinguishing features of the Villa Reale complex, whose reading values range from the properly architectural scale to urban and landscape relations. The possibility of re-attributing to the Villa the character of a "nourishing element of relations" constitutes the possible number of a recovery intervention aimed not simply at a rigorous conservative restoration, but rather at enhancing and rendering its deepest and most rooted readable characters, since they can promote a new and wider system of relations. The recovery of the Villa Reale complex allows us to inaugurate a new urban centrality for Monza, built around the monumental complex.

The project was built around this thematic articulation: the recovery of a deep-rooted relation with the city of Monza, the rediscovery of visual, perceptive and distributive axes able to construct a sequence of affinities around the Villa; the interpretation of the Auditorium theme as a connecting element; a rigorous attention to safeguard and recover the precious architectural features of the complex through a choice of uses to settle commensurate with the specific characteristics of the spaces, which is absolutely compatible with a rigorous conservation restoration.The reading that we want to propose recognizes in the articulation between Centro Città, Villa Reale and Parco complex the constitution of a unitary relationship pole, of a centrality that requires different scales of investigation, with frequent steps and verifications between the operating choices urban and those on a metropolitan scale. The new centrality entrusted to the villa, the gardens and the park will certainly require the creation of different reception areas for visitors, which the project offers in multiple perimeter areas to the entire complex. In this direction the project proposal identifies an integrated system of parking, parking and interchange, buried, arranged on the routes of penetration towards Villa Reale and the City Center and the entrances to the Park, so as to intercept the traffic induced by the tourist attraction and from the new functions foreseen by the different directions.

THE GARDENS OF VILLA REALE. 

Facing the restoration of the gardens of the Villa Reale in Monza to make it a highly representative international residence, means to relate the high architectural and artistic quality of the building with the high quality of the immediately adjacent garden. The dimensional relation - still evident and perceptible - between the residence, the gardens of immediate relevance and the park justifies the choice to face the complex theme of the restoration of the gardens according to the principles of the Charter of Florence, created to give guidelines about the preservation of historic gardens of public interest and high cultural value. The careful reading and the reflections conducted on the complex system of gardens and open spaces that make up the so-called Gardens belonging to Villa Reale, have led to the configuration of diversified interventions on individual areas, tracing methodological paths that move from operations of strict restoration of the historical text still readable to design proposals for the rediscovered spaces, avoiding any restoration operations and stopping to consider the temporal dimension of the garden, the changes due to the passing of time: not the choice of an era for the Gardens but a reflection on the historical text that we have available.
