program: urban regeneration of viale Ramazzini, via Talami, via Gioia in Santa Croce district

By continuing the public spaces and enhancing the excellences present in the Santa Croce district (Centro Malaguzzi Reggio Children, Tecnopolo and Parco Innovazione Reggiane) the project proposes an expansion of public spaces to regenerate a strategic area between the historic city and the outskirts, now witnessing a cultural boom. Relations and mobility are the key points of the strategy. The starting point is the reopening of the connection with the city by getting rid of the underpass, substituted by a new railway crossing. In this way, Viale Ramazzini returns to be a unified road that can be traveled by vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians in safety thanks to dedicated lanes. The redevelopment also concerns via Gioia, via Veneri and via Talami. The redesign of the road section is expected along all the length, to increase the space for pedestrians, cyclists and the definition of the roadway. The project redesigns and rationalizes the routes within the Santa Croce District, enhancing the pedestrian and cycle paths, currently disadvantaged by the excessive flow of cars. More generally, it aims to reorganize the road section for better usability, functionality and perception of pedestrian spaces. The focus of the mobility project is to give priority to pedestrians, cyclists and public buses compared to private cars.

By regenerating the edges of the car lanes, a linear cycle path is created on both sides without interruptions. The reconstruction and enhancement of public lighting improves the perception of the retrained parts, the continuity of the pedestrian and bicycle paths and safety. The inclusion of functional equipment for communication and use of infrastructures (bus stop, company signs, public information) and the addition of a signage, in addition to the ordinary one, aimed at highlighting and characterizing the intersections and places are planned. of greater interest, both historical-cultural and functional. The reorganization and integration of the existing trees is planned, as well as the definition of a line of discontinuous flowerbeds, which accompany the lateral paths defining the spaces; another intervention will be the realization and installation of both floor solutions (tactile guided guide) and sound solutions that facilitate safe transit for the visually impaired. The aim of the project is to extend the effect of the redevelopment and characterization of public space towards private spaces and buildings. The intention is to define clear guidelines that can be followed by future neighboring developments. Focus is therefore on special places, privileged itineraries and retrained areas with innovative functions in social, sports, museum, theatrical, juvenile entrepreneurship, cultural and educational associations. The signage totems will be integrated, identifying roads and public and private activities, with a specially designed signage system, and a strongly identifying graphic, able to give further information also of public utility. With the same logic it is planned to equip the intersections with written and graphic elements imprinted on the asphalt, which integrate with indications the entire redevelopment. In a more general sense, the principle of the project is that of promoting an hybrid between public and private sphere.
